Method to Your Madness

Ok, you have done it again, how did this happen so fast? You cleaned out closets, you cleaned out drawers and all of a sudden it's all back! ARGH!

Organizing your home somehow gives you a sense of organization in your life, but when things have gotten out-of-control, you too have this feeling of being out of control in your life. So lets make a method to the madness.

First thing - let's survey the area, you may need to grab a notepad and take notes. Is there mail piled up on counters? Are the kid's shoes by the back door? Are keys, cell phones (and wires) and wallets just thrown on the table or counter top? Let's tackle that easy thing first.

• Get rid of junk mail and credit card offers as soon as they arrive.



• Keep bills close to the computer if you are an online bill payer, if not put bills in one easy accessable place



• Put your new magazines and catalogs in the area you plan on reading them, don't leave them on the counter never to be seen again.



• Put your keys on a hook or in a bowl everytime you come home, make it a habit.



• How about moving your cell cord to your bedside table out of sight and plug in every night.



• As for the other stuff you unload when you walk in the door, such as your purse or wallet, cell phone etc. designat a drawer to put it in.


• Finally, How about a nice decorative basket for the shoes to go in everyday.
  

Cleaning closets and drawers is a major task but take it slow and do it one room at a time. I find that if I start in the guest room, I can then put everything in ther to do my sorting. Start with three areas - Throw Away, Give Away, Garage Sale. Go through one room at a time with these three areas in mind and go for it!

A good friend told me that when she goes through her stuff and finally gets things cleaned out - ANYTIME she buys something she thinks about what she has to throw out to replace it. It keeps her from buying junk and saves money too!
